Manila

Last January, I purposely didn’t book a flight to Manila on Holy Week-end and instead just visit in June. I felt like I went home to Manila far too often in 2011 and now, I just want to stay put and grow roots in Singapore.

Unexpectedly, I flew to Manila last week, April 9, for a round of fieldwork. It is quite out of the blue, but I was excited to be back sooner than planned. I didn’t have enough time to do everything I wanted to do and to meet everyone I wanted to catch-up with, but I was able to pretty much stretch what little time I got.

Some photos at Changi Airport, popular for being one of the best airports in the world. I wouldn’t disagree.

We departed Singapore at around 6PM and arrived in Manila at around 915PM. I love taking night flights when flying back to Manila because the view of the city from the top is gorgeous because of the lights! Singapore cannot match!

Then the next day was the start of fieldwork which spills over for the next four days.

These kids saw me with my camera and they asked me to take a picture of them!

I took this picture at the last day of fieldwork. How perfect.
The highlight of every trip to Manila would always be a dinner out with the family. :)
Alas, I had to go back to Singapore. But weirdly, this trip is the first trip I did not feel sad about leaving. Usually, there’s an intense pang of sadness when I would be dropped off at the airport.
The waiting lounge for my flight back is the same lounge where I was 4 years back, en route to Tokyo for my student exchange. It’s the best time of my life, still untopped. I have always loved travel. I am curious where life will lead me in the next few years.
Whenever I ride the cab from the airport to my flat, this is the view I look forward the most… and when I see it, I am reminded that I am back to the grind.
 See you in June Manila!
