WatchWatch
106583 kilometers. 110 days. 25 trips. 8 countries. 3 continents. 1 soul-enriching year of travel. To put a cap to this adventure-filled 2012, I have put together a short video diary of my nine-day, solo trip to Paris. “One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.”

Paris
I intend to write a proper, full-fledged post-Paris entry, but I still haven’t found the time to gather my thoughts to write about the whole experience (meaning, lingering in a cafe to write on my journal) . So in the meantime, I am cross-posting my pictures of the trip from my Facebook account. Day 1: Took me 18 hours to reach Paris and arrived at the apartment really exhausted. Treated...

4 days to go: On choosing where to stay
Planning for my Paris trip, the first thing that I wanted to settle was where to stay. I am a believer that staying at the right place is crucial to having a good travel experience. And while lodging at a cozy hotel is ideal, it is not the best idea for a 23 year-old yuppie! As staying at a hotel is out of the question, I am left with two choices: a hostel or an apartment. The Hostel Situation ...

6 days to go: Just Paris
Over lunch with a good friend, I excitedly told her, “I am going to Paris!” Excited about this piece of news, her eyes lit up and asked, “Just Paris?” “Yes, just Paris.” I have always wanted to visit Paris… and when the opportunity presented itself, I knew that it is just right that I spend as much time as I can in the city. Hence, instead of the usual...

Jakarta Take 2
I spent five days in fast-developing Jakarta last week for a round of fieldwork. In many ways, it is similar to Manila, the traffic, the heat, the tricky transpo, the warm people. I really wanted to explore Bandung or Yogyakarta during the weekend, but unfortunately there’s not enough time! Hopefully I can visit these places next time!

Bookstore Saturday
I won’t pretend… I am not a big bookworm. But once in awhile, I find myself spending the whole afternoon lingering in a bookstore. Yesterday, I spent hours wanderlusting in Kinokuniya while leafing through pages of travel books. Traveling is ice cream to my soul - it makes me excited, motivated, and happy. I’d rather save money for a trip than buy a new gadget or luxury-branded...

Volunteering at Singapore Art Museum
Since February, I’ve been volunteering at Singapore Art Museum to make my Saturdays more interesting. Living in Singapore for a while now, I felt like I had to do something new and different to keep myself from getting bored. Last Saturday, I volunteered for Lee Wen’s Performance Art Workshop. Lee Wen is one of the most respected artists in Singapore with great contributions to the...

Saturday
There is really no coherent story with these photos, so this is more of photo dump than a blog entry.  I was on my way to the office to finish some work and I sat beside an old man on the bus. I found it cute that he was reading a book with big font letters. Who reads books while commuting these days?? Everyone’s glued to their iPhones. Healthy eating Day 14. Isn’t it endearing...

Sunday Brunch at Club Street
Last Sunday, my awesome-cook-of-an-officemate threw a Mediterranean brunch at her place in Club Street. Seriously, it was worth waking up early for! We had a delectable spread of food I cannot pronounce, but everything was so good. To say that my tummy was happy that day is an understatement. She even prepared pavlova for dessert. All of the food we had, was cooked by her from scratch! Mental...

Manila
Last January, I purposely didn’t book a flight to Manila on Holy Week-end and instead just visit in June. I felt like I went home to Manila far too often in 2011 and now, I just want to stay put and grow roots in Singapore.  Unexpectedly, I flew to Manila last week, April 9, for a round of fieldwork. It is quite out of the blue, but I was excited to be back sooner than planned. I...

Orchard
This weekend, I took my new camera for a spin and I must say, I really missed snapping photos using a real camera. When my almost four year old Canon G9 broke at the end of last year, I just kept on using Instagram (which I think is one of the best apps) to take photos. So, from hereon, I will be posting more photos and try keeping this blog active! Orchard Road is just six bus stops away from my...

Postcrossing
I love receiving postcards and this is why I joined Postcrossing. Here, you could send and receive postcards to and from random countries. I joined Postcrossing last year but I didn’t really pay much attention to it. A few days ago, I visited the site again and decided to give it a try. Here’s the first postcard I will be sending which will travel from Singapore to Netherlands!

Andy Warhol
Trish and I went to the Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal Exhibit yesterday at the ArtScience Museum. Taking photos were not allowed (actually, I don’t understand why they prohibit photo-taking when they allowed photos to be taken during the Dali exhibit…) but I got to sneakily take some. In the 1960s, the art scene was dominated by abstract expressionism and Andy Warhol went...
